Director Identification Numbers commence 1 November 2021

From 1 November 2021 all new Directors of corporations must apply for a Director Identification Number (Director ID) with the Australian Business Registry (ABR).

A Director ID is a unique identifier that a director will need to apply for once and keep forever. The new ID system will attempt to prevent the use of false and fraudulent director identities.
All directors of a company, registered Australian body, registered foreign company or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation will need a director ID.
For Directors of corporations the requirement of holding an ID depends on when you were appointed as a director:

  • Existing directors have until 30 November 2022 to apply.

  • Directors appointed between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 must apply within 28 days of their appointment.

  • From 5 April 2022 all directors must have a Director ID prior to appointment.

ASIC is responsible for enforcing the new requirements and it is an offence if you do not apply on time.
More information regarding Director ID’s and the application process can be found on the ABR website.

Can employees claim workers compensation for COVID-19?

Worker's compensation is there for worker's who become sick, injured or diseased during or due to their employment. COVID-19 is very likely to be considered under the disease category of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (Cth) (SRC Act).

Super is now following new employees

As of 1 November 2021, there will be changes to the way employers choose a super fund for new employees. There is an extra step that will need to take place.

If a new employee doesn't choose a super fund, most employers will need to request the employees 'stapled super fund' details from the ATO to avoid penalties.

2 additional vouchers are expected to be available in December

The Dine & Discover NSW Voucher scheme will be expanded to 6 x $25 vouchers. Existing customers will not need to reapply to receive the additional vouchers.
